A child’s birthday party for minimalist parents

We all want to spoil our kids on their birthday, but there is a limit to what you can buy without counting well-intentioned gifts that are never used. Here are five simple and fun ways to celebrate your child’s birthday.A child’s birthday party for minimalist parents.

Start with digital invitations.

Online invitations let you control RSVPs, send updates, and thank all of your guests.

Plan a memorable experience.

Instead of running to buy decorations, food and bags of surprises, why not go see a show, a play or a football match? You can also go to a restaurant or visit a museum, aquarium or science center and create an exciting activity that no one will forget.

Forget about banners and balloons.

If you are hosting your home party, use a blackboard or whiteboard to write a special message to the child whose birthday is. Encourage each guest to write their message or draw a picture. Take a picture of the work when it’s finished and enjoy watching it later.

Organize a party activity to make the surprise bags.

Whether it’s decorating cupcakes or making fun little toys, prepare a bag or gift box for each guest where they can take their treasure as a thank you gift.

Forget the gifts.

Ask your guests to bring a two dollar coin instead of a gift. The money can be used to buy the coveted item from the child, and you won’t have to worry about finding space to store new toys. Even better, ask your friends and family members to contribute to a fundraising campaign organized in honor of the child’s birthday for an organization that supports families and children, such as L’Oeuvre des Manoirs Ronald McDonald.
