Ease of driving

Recent revisions to the dual-clutch automatic transmission seem almost normal, but the accelerator pedal is clearly adjusted to eliminate the last drop of gas. If you want to make significant progress, crushing is your only option.

Comfort

The Focus sedan’s smooth ride and quiet interior make it one of the segment’s favorite sedans for relaxed cruising. The hard door armrests (with fabric upholstery) detract from the experience, but it’s still one of the most comfortable cars in its price range, at least for the front passengers.

Seat comfort

The front seats are rather indescribable, but prove to be of great help during regular use, even on long journeys. Finely padded armrests are disappointing. The rear seats themselves are nice enough, but there is not enough legroom in the back.

Driving comfort

Despite the advanced age of the Focus, its suspension is probably the best in the segment to absorb imperfections. The car is rarely disturbed. It’s like sliding down the road, except there is a constant feeling of control.

Noise and vibration

The Focus is one of the leaders in its category in terms of sound insulation. Many economical cars let the wind and road noise pass, but the Focus keeps it largely away. This test car did not have the engine drone problem that we noted in the manual gearbox model.

Interior

The stylized dashboard places most of the controls nearby, but the small central screen is roughly the same size as the on-board computer. The buttons can be hard to tell apart at a glance, while the comfortable rear seat is surpassed by those of most rivals. Unlike the chassis, the interior shows its age.

Ease of use

Most controls are easy to reach. We like the human pictogram of the airflow interface, but many buttons look the same. The central display screen is exceptionally small, but still legible. It’s functional but a little late.

Enter exit

The doors are tall but compact, which facilitates access in tight spaces. The front seats are pleasantly high for graceful entry. If taller people are seated in the front, rear entry / exit may be difficult due to the encroachment of the front seat backrests.

Space

The front row provides enough space for larger occupants, but adapts well to a wide variety of equipment. The rear legroom is exceptionally limited for this category; most rivals offer much more. The rear headroom can also be tightened for tall passengers.

Visibility

The slim front roof pillars provide a breathtaking view when cornering. View on the hood is also generous. The standard rearview camera compensates for the high rump of the Focus sedan, which eliminates the need to park blindly.

Utility

The trunk capacity is slightly above average at 13.2 cubic feet. Rear seat backrests fold flat, but the passage could be more generous. The storage space inside is such that you will find a place to store your phone, but Ford does not make your task easier.
