Top 5 Reasons Why Patients Love Home Health Care

(EN) There are more and more easy and effective options for managing your home care, especially if you have a chronic illness that requires monitoring.Top 5 Reasons Why Patients Love Home Health Care.

And, according to a new survey conducted with the support of Canada Health Infoway, patients are giving positive feedback to OTN’s Telehomecare program.

Telehomecare, an intensive Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) intensive health coaching and home monitoring program for people with chronic lung disease or heart failure, consistently gets top marks from patients .

The program, which is free to patients and offered through local health integration networks, provides easy-to-use equipment from the comfort of home.

Patients can measure their vital signs daily and answer simple questions about how they are feeling. Specially trained clinicians monitor the data and communicate with the patient at the first sign of deterioration.

The program also offers personalized weekly telephone support to help patients make the connection between habits and health in order to prepare patients and their caregivers to manage their symptoms and their condition themselves.

A total of 134 patients who use home telecare to manage their chronic condition were recently interviewed in the 2018 online experience experience survey.

Here are the top five benefits of home care:

  1. Coaching: Patients gave high marks to personalized coaching in home care that helped them achieve their personal health and life goals.
  2. Technology: In addition to coaching as a main benefit of the program, 96% of patients said that the technology provided by the home telecare program was very easy to use.
  3. Condition management: 93% of patients said that telecare at home allows them to better manage their condition in the most comfortable and familiar environment – the home.
  4. Reduction in travel time: 86% of patients who participated in the survey indicated that managing their home care reduced the time spent traveling to a health care provider.
  5. Reduced emergency room visits: 81% of patients said they had less need to go to the emergency room, thanks to supervision and increased confidence in their ability to manage themselves at home.
