Teonimanu’s disappearance
Residents of the Solomon Islands tell the story of Roraimenu, a man whose wife decided to flee with a man on the island of Teonimanu. Clearly annoyed, he took a curse and went to the island with four murals of waves adorning his canoe.
When he arrived, he planted two taro plants and kept one for himself. According to the rules of the curse, once his own plant started to germinate, a disaster would strike the island. Indeed, he did it: Looking up from a mountain, he saw a series of waves crashing on the island, causing it to sink under the waves.
Teonimanu was indeed a real place that has disappeared, although it is not known exactly when. Waves alone cannot take away small but large volcanic islands, but an underwater shake can do so. It turns out that the island has always been in balance on the edge of an unstable underwater slope. A large earthquake shook the region, which collapsed the foundations of the island and collapsed under the waves.
This islet-sized landslide would have leaked a lot of water as it occurred, which would have generated a massive series of megatunami. So, although these waves of revenge did take place, they were the result of the event, not the cause of it.
The people of the Solomon Islands sometimes claim to descend from this extinct land.
Vampirism in the Korean Sky
Philosophical texts speak of an explosion of light in the sky over Korea on March 11, 1437.
At the time, the peninsula was not divided into two nations, but it was united during the reign of the Joseon dynasty. It was certainly an advanced imperial state, in which language, writing, currency and law were fairly well developed. Science, too, had made its debut – especially in the form of astronomy.
That evening, in 1437, some of its observers saw a lightning bolt over their heads, and it seemed to last two whole weeks before disappearing.
